The 10 Dog Commandments
It’s really important that you read and follow our house rules aka The Ten Dog Commandments. These have been put in place to ensure that all of our visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience at The Dug and Bone.
1. You poop, you scoop
All dog poop must be bagged and disposed of at the cleaning stations. If your dog pees, please mop it up with the blue-roll provided. Please use our pet friendly disinfectant sprays to spray the area to keep it clean and smelling fresh.
2. No mutts with nuts
We do not allow unneutered males unless they are under one year of age. Chemical castration is accepted as long as it is within the dates of efficacy. Any humping behaviour must be immediately stopped by the owner and please report any excessive humping to us. Please see our FAQs for more details on the reasons around this rule.
3. All dogs must be vaccinated
Dogs had vaccination certificates before it was cool! Please upload or bring their vaccination certificates on your first visit to show that their vaccinations are up to date. Please do not bring your dog if they are coughing or showing other signs of illness. Please do not bring any female dogs who are in heat.
4. ID please!
All dogs must wear collars or harnesses and ID tags (ID tags are still a legal requirement in the UK). Choke chains, electronic collars or any other electronic devices are not allowed.
5. Know your dog
If you have adopted or fostered an adult dog, we ask that you wait at least 6 weeks before bringing them, so that you understand their temperament and how they will behave around other dogs and people. If for any reason you think that your dog may react negatively to other dogs, please do not bring them to a mixed play session. In this situation, an exclusive hire session would be more appropriate.
6. Three’s a crowd
To ensure that there’s enough space for all the dogs and their owners, only 2 adults can attend per dog, and only 2 dogs per adult.
7. Never work with children and animals
As the saying goes….with good reason. Children and dogs can unintentionally hurt and scare each other, therefore we cannot accommodate any children under 12 to our mixed play, puppy or breed sessions. Children over 12 must be supervised by an adult. Children under 12 are welcome when booking exclusive hire as long as you’re confident that they will be safe with the dogs in attendance.
8. Tricks and treats
Treats are a good way to teach new tricks, but be careful about giving treats with other dogs nearby, you might find yourself surrounded! Always get permission to give another dog a treat, and never try to give treats to a group of dogs. Please do not bring any other types of food.
9. You must supervise your dog at all times
This is a place to spend quality time with your dog and you must supervise them all at times – it’s your responsibility to ensure that your dog behaves, just as it is when you are in a public outdoor space. Pay attention to your dog’s behaviour and their signals to you, and remove them from any situations where you may find that they are bullying or being bullied by other dogs. Hitting, shouting or any other abusive behaviour towards dogs (or people) will not be tolerated.
10. Have fun!
We’ve designed this space for you and your dog to really enjoy each other’s company. Whether you’re teaching them new tricks, exploring different areas or making new friends, your dog will appreciate your time and attention. Don’t forget to tag us on Insta @thedugandbone!
